In response to the COVID-19 Pandemic and subsequent social distancing requirement – MHFA England have produced an online version of the full Mental Health First Aid course to enable people to continue to learn and qualify as Mental Health First Aiders in these unusual times. These are skills which will be of even greater importance as we return to work and life in a world which is much changed and still full of uncertainty.
Even in more usual times you might find an online course is more compatible with your needs / commitments, as it is more flexible, and also comes without expensive travel and accommodation costs if you have staff in many different locations.
The course has the same learning outcomes as the two day Mental Health First Aid course, but is designed differently as two days of discussing sensitive topics over zoom is unlikely to do many of us much good.
The course is a mix of independent learning – reading, videos, online exercise, and four live sessions delivered via MHFA England’s Online Learning Hub – hosted on Enabley. (Best accessed via Google Chrome – check whether your set up is suitable for the course here )
You will learn about stress, mental health, anxiety and depression, suicide, self harm, eating disorders, psychosis and more. You will learn the Mental Health First Aid Action plan – easy to remember steps to follow when supporting someone who is experiencing mental distress or crisis.
You will receive your course materials to your door prior to the course so you can complete your first set of independent learning before the first live session with your MHFA England Instructor Member (Sarah Long). After completion of the full course, you will receive an e-certificate and be an accredited Mental Health First Aider.
